We cannot recommend Ground Up Builders enough! They converted our two-car garage into an ADU and did a truly amazing job. They finished ahead of schedule, communication was great throughout the process, and every single worker we interacted with was professional, kind and courteous. Uzi runs his business with both warmth and integrity. He generously answered every question we had (even the stupid ones!), and offered a lot of valuable advice too. We particularly appreciated that he kept his promise to not go over budget. There wasn't a single change order, even when there was an unexpected issue with the sewer line - he explained that the contingency would cover the additional costs. We needed to remove a bath/shower tile surround to re-waterproof and retile, and replace the fixtures. We went with GUB after getting their name from a tile vendor and meeting with more than one alternative. GUB were the most expensive by far but also were the most responsive and had the most professional and comprehensive bid. All of the legal paperwork and their license information was included, along with a detailed scope of work and examples of past work. Adi Aiish was our Field Manager. He’s friendly and very responsive and our overall impression was that the additional cost would be worth it to have a professional job. To be succinct, here are the pros and cons from the project: Pros: - Responsive field manager - Very fast demolition and quick work overall - Crew was hard working and polite, especially Antonio - Tiling work looks good Cons: - When a piece of plumbing broke and flooded the ceiling below, the response was that things like this happen. It took 5 days for the field manager to take a look and offer an apology. - During demolition, the mess was off the charts bad, leading to a lot of cleanup for us afterwards. During the project only the floor was covered (and on one day not at all). I’ve had other renovations done that were much cleaner. - The finishing was not as polished as I would have hoped. The caulking around fixtures was messy, the tile tilted slightly revealing the old seam around the floor, painting that was in the bid was only one coat until I asked for more. I think the M.O. is to work very quickly and fine tune the finishes only after being asked. I was worried it wouldn’t be possible just due to the huge dirt hill we had taking up half of the space. Adi Aiish at Ground Up Builders and Marcos Rojas took on this challenge and let me tell you, they absolutely did not disappoint. They took my plain backyard and turned it into an oasis, equipped with a heater for the pool AND the spa, as well as a built-in, natural-gas grill and countertop and tied it all together with a stunning planter and moody lighting that really brought the set up to life at night. From the very start, Adi was engaging, knowledgeable, and incredibly easy to work with. He treated our home with the same care and attention as if it were his own. Every detail--from tile selection to finishing touches--was handled with precision and pride. What really sets him apart is his consistent presence and open communication. No question was too small, and he was always available to walk us through updates or decisions. He took the time to make sure we understood the process every step of the way, which made a huge difference. Quinn Riddle446 days agoHad such a great experience using Ground up! Had water damage on our floors and used them to do the repairs. Not only did they do a fabulous job, they dealt with the insurance and made sure everything that was replaced was not just fixed, but better than it had been. Amir, our on site project manager was incredibly attentive to any questions or issues that came up and made sure we were satisfied to the fullest with the work. Sean was incredibly helpful in guiding us through the process making sure the insurance company didn’t drag their feet and paid for the repairs, & paid for us to stay at an Airbnb while they completed the work. We ended up having a few upgrades done on the house in addition to the repairs because we were impressed with their work, the prices, and most importantly, they were transparent and incredibly responsive to our needs.+0Posted on Google

stephanie s.727 days agoWe could not be happier we chose Ground Up Builders to help us with our major remodel this year. Company owner Uzi stepped in as a late recommendation after a previous contractor wasn't cutting it. He gave us an accurate estimate within a short span of meeting us, and within a couple of weeks, our house was gutted and the project was on its way. His team always showed up (often even on Saturdays), was always on time, worked hard, managed additional requests and changes swiftly and with grace. Uzi himself was responsive, fair, kind, even-tempered, and honest throughout. He stopped by often and as necessary. I was very impressed with their professional approach and great customer service. Our project manager, Adi, was great at communicating and clarifying any concerns we had, and at the end they did a great job on time, and the quality of their work was excellent. There were no hiccups, no misunderstandings, and just good work. We will certainly go back to them for any construction projects we may be having in future. Ground Up is a unicorn among contractors. Our cost and time estimates were correct. 8/9 months for a bathroom and bedroom addition, kitchen remodel, new floors all over and updates to windows and current bathroom, and new patio. We didn't start out with that much to do, but of course we did expand the scope once we discovered how great Uzi's team was at getting things done - and it didn't add much to the time. We figured it was best to do as much as a we could while Ground Up was on site and it could get done quickly and reasonably. Uzi cares endlessly about the quality of his work, as well as the timeliness of it. He knows his stuff and has a good eye. He runs a big operation, but he manages it so well that it ends up being a big plus to the client - motivated and friendly workers who we really liked, crews that always show up day after day, everyone really working hard to get things done well and on time. We've been through construction before, so we know it's sort of unheard of to think of your contractor like a friend after going through the hell of construction. As you can see from the pictures, the after looks fantastic. Adi was able to work within our budget, able to get the job done quickly and efficiently, and was thoughtful about checking in and making sure we were happy with the work that they were doing. They would also let us know when there were any structural issues and ways to reinforce our deck to make it last lon ger. Daniel Pass1215 days agoJacob Hirschorn and Ground Up Builders are truly in a class by themselves! I feel incredibly fortunate to have found them, and I couldn’t imagine hiring anyone else for any work I may need on my house in the future. Jacob and his team not only did outstanding work, but Jacob was also always available to discuss the next steps, make any adjustments, or address any of my concerns. He was always calm and would resolve any minor issues quickly and efficiently. I am a bit of a “perfectionist,” and when I asked things to be redone for small details, Jacob was ALWAYS happy to work with me. I would also stress out, and he would assure me everything would be fine! Even if he was busy, he would make himself available or promptly respond with a text message. They consistently went above and beyond. For example, I am allergic to dust, so they removed the old dusty carpet and items from the room through the outside window instead of going through the house. My job included completely redoing a room and adding a beautiful stone veneer to the front of the house. In the room, the job included removing a closet, fixing the walls where the closet was removed, removing old carpet, sanding and refinishing the original old wood floors from the 1950s (which ended up needing some more wood added where the closet was removed), installing recessed lights, a new light switch, new baseboards, and new outlets. The room looks GEORGEOUS!!! Like a brand-new room! I shopped around, and from the first moment, Jacob stood out from all the contractors. This was July 2022, and my mother and I wanted people to wear masks. He was the only contractor who arrived wearing a mask. He was professional, personable, knowledgeable, and friendly and remained so throughout the job! I had spoken with the owner of a wood floor company and asked, “What would be a good question to ask a contractor to see if he knows what he is doing?” I sent him a picture of my floor, and he said, “Ask him what type of wood you have.” Jacob was the only contractor that knew the answer right away. He also knew what type of wall the closet had that I wanted to remove. Another difference with Jacob was that he didn’t demand a minimum dollar amount to accept a job. He said that he believed that others would see the work, and he would get referrals from us as well as do more work for us later. He was right! We just completed installing a new roof with Ground Up Builders! I should also mention that another door needed to be reframed. It had both a gap and was loudly “creaking.” Also, in one bathroom, the grout was removed and redone. Both of these jobs were FLAWLESS!!! And, again, I really do pay attention to detail! After agreeing upon one and a start date, the crew proceeded in phases and finished their work on schedule and within an acceptable margin of the original estimate. From the initial consultation to pivoting several times based on new design approaches and availabilities of patio tile, he was patient, friendly and always willing to work with me. We had to remove an old broken jacuzzi from a raised patio decking and decided to expand the patio and create more livable space instead. Tom's crew was efficient and fastidious, and the price he quoted was the price we ended up paying, despite delays and issues outside of anyone's control. Whenever we had questions, all of the guys working at our house were helpful and if they didn't know something, they made sure to have Jacob call us to talk through our questions. The price was competitive and the work was done even quicker than they originally estimated. We asked all the employees to wear face masks at our house (we did as well) so everyone was able to stay safe during the project. They rebuilt my wooden deck with Timbertech composite. I had 10 estimates and ground up builders price was reasonable. I do extensive research before using any contractor. They are fully licensed with CSLB, insured, and bonded. I found only good things about the company when I looked them up online. They are A+ rated on BBB. Amir was my project manager, and he was a pleasure to work with. He even surprised me with a party box of Crumbl cookies for my birthday during the construction phase. He was reachable at all times with any of my concerns and made sure all details were completed. They even use this cool app where you can check progress of your project, view and pay invoices and real time messaging. The workers were reliable, always on time ready to work. They kept the job site in broom clean condition each day. I am a very picky person and this crew pays extra special attention to detail. From the planning to the actual construction, every question or possible concern was addressed and explained in a patient and kind manner. The work itself was great. We stayed at budget and actually finished sooner than anticipated. Uzi is a great person to work with and his calm expertise and leadership was exactly what I needed. His workers were great too. Experts who worked hard and always smiled. Can easily and wholeheartedly recommend Ground Up to anyone considering having work done. As soon as we're ready to add on another bedroom, we will 100% hire Ground Up again. I had a lot of fears from all the things I'd heard about contractors and house work. He was also able to help us resolve a complicated permit violation on the home, and worked with the City to correct the defaults and clear the violation. Deborah W.1691 days agoI selected Ground Up Builders over several other contractors for a condo remodel based on the professionalism, courtesy, respect, thoroughness, and insight that Jacob (Project Manager of Ground Up) provided. From the very beginning when he entered my unit, he was on time and respectful by wearing a mask and offering to take his shoes off. He had a great attitude and really communicated care and passion for his line of work and how he would be able to help my remodel needs. He was attentive and listened to all my concerns and requests and provided an estimate on time like he promised. What I really appreciate is the time and care he spent in keeping me updated with the remodel from start to end. If for some reason, I was not happy, he was quick to make any necessary changes. I never felt out of the loop. His attentiveness allowed me to trust his work to be completed to my satisfaction and in the timeline he specified. Also, I have a very difficult HOA to work with and Jacob and his team followed all the contractual rules so as not to cause me any issues with them. He also provided some great tips to add value and prestige to my condo. He is passionate and meticulous and you gain a great sense in his goal to not only do a job to the best of his ability but to make sure that overall the client is happy. We worked on a design together, and once we agreed on the terms, they gave us a planning, started on time and finished the job in 8 weeks as planned. Always responsive, courteous, efficient. We could always discuss our changing requests and they gave us good advices. The project manager was a pleasure to work with. Final corrections were easy. Austin T.1856 days agoFor full transparency I used to work for Uzi about 5 years ago. When my AC on the house was on its last leg in this crazy summer heat I knew just who to call. I've always felt Uzi was very fair with his pricing and always went above and beyond for his clients. I called him directly and sure enough he set up a time for his guy to come to the house and give me a bid. As much as I like Ground Up Builders I still got 2 other bids. His bid for a swap on a 5Ton was in the middle but all were pretty competitive. I ended up going with him, he scheduled install within 2 weeks since it wasn't an emergency and we still had a working AC. His guys came 8am on Monday took out all the old equipment and ducts and replaced the equipment on day one, on day two all the electrical work and ducts were installed. His guys were courteous, wore masks, covered floor with sheets and where the hatch to attic is happens to be in my closet, they covered all the clothes. The work we requested included upgrading our condo throughout. They installed a beautiful step-in shower in our primary bathroom and upgraded our guest bathroom with a new sliding tub door with new trim around the shower tile. They installed two new toilets and cabinets in both bathrooms as well as upgrading the lighting and electrical throughout our condo. They upgraded our kitchen with beautiful new counter backsplash and multi-colored LED lighting under the cabinets. The also painted ceiling, walls and trim throughout. They installed a wonderful barn door and recessed dimmable lighting in our bedroom. Tom Zion was a pleasure to work with and provided great suggestions including modernizing the electrical switches and outlets throughout and adding dimmers where appropriate. The primary craftsmen assigned to our project were hard working and very responsive to our requests to ensure our satisfaction. We have also done our kitchen, flooring, and roof with them in the past. Our project manager Sean from Ground Up has been a part of our family since day one. He has become a great friend and a loyal contractor. After the first project with him we knew we had a contractor for life. Not only has he helped us out, he has also done my mom's house in Canoga Park, my best friend Lisa's back yard (even though we are still waiting for a BBQ invite) and my cousin Brian's HVAC and windows. If it were up to me, I would recommend everyone I know to him. Talk about customer service and genuine care! I'm not the easiest of clients and I do tend to call at crazy hours, but I've never heard a complaint once - he's always happy to answer and to help. We finally got it, with simply the best builders group out there. and an amazing project management on site from A-Z by Adi Aiish. We could tell from the beginning how much Adi Aiish loves what he does so much that he insisted on making sure we visit his existing local customers remodeling projects, so we could see various styles of homes prior to making any final decisions. The opposite of all other builders who always pushed us to sign a contract without knowledge of details and patience like Adi had. We always wanted To make our back yard warm, cozy, wide open and friendly to host. We got to change our living spaces throughout the years to our needs, and we got to meet many con artists out there. they took our money, and brought up very poor results, and a patio cover that was a collapsing hazard. And this projets that we did with GUB, will definitely stay for life... So, after we’ve been burned so many times in construction, and we had literally tripled our cost of improvements by doing things with the cheapest quote we got. Since it’s all the same, right? Well, in construction it is not. The saying “you get what you pay for” did really well on our end, and we have paid the price. Lesson learned, and we are so glad we met Adi from ground up builders. They were not the cheapest, but definitely delivered their promise from A-Z, and really fast, with high quality of work, and no shortcuts been made, like typical others. Unbelievable. I met with Adi Aiish and explained my unrealistic timeline for exterior stucco and window installation. He said "no problem" and he had a crew at my house to start the next morning. They accomplished the impossible: completed an exterior siding demolition on two walls, new stucco and custom double pane window in under TWO WEEKS. Unhead of in LA, but that's what I had to have. Carolyn C.3064 days agoGuy Azoulay was my contact for Ground Up Builders, and he was wonderful and fun to work with! He explained what was needed, or what was possible, at every step of the way, and oversaw the project carefully. I really recommend him! I had originally wanted to install some solar on my roof, but opted for other green home improvements instead--regardless of my choice right now, if I decided to go solar, I would choose Ground Up, since they know what they're doing. Ground Up Builders helped fix and update a bunch of things the original builder of my house cut corners on or didn't do to code. They installed insulation in my attic, changed my lights to LEDs (and were very thorough in troubleshooting and fixing the messed up dimmers and wiring), changed the recessed lightbulb cups to more efficient ones, added UV filter systems on my AC, changed my old filters, and installed a QuietCool fan. They also did a walk through the house once they were finished with the project. It's been a wonderful and hassle free experience! Now my house no longer suffers from fluctuating temperatures or drafts, and my power bill is dramatically lower than it was before these improvements!+0Posted on Yelp
Ashik P.3150 days agoSo this a review that has been along time coming. But I need to clarify where we are in the process with GUB. We haven't started the project yet, but this is our experience with the vetting process and why we chose Adi and GUB. They are helping us with our back yard hardscape and landscape project. Pavers, artificial turf and DG. Like most of you looking for help with a project like this, you're gonna do your homework and really learn what you're getting yourself into. We met Adi with GUB after meeting three other providers and still met with three more following his initial visit. Adi has really taken great care of us so far. That initial appointment was supposed to be 2 hours, but because of our questions and his insights , we spend the day making the vision we wanted. Mind you, we didn't sign with him that day. We still wanted to feel the market and get more quotes. And Adi and GUB were not the cheapest. We still spent about $5k more than the next group, but we really see the value in going with them. I visited a job site that Adi had managed and saw great work and great experiences from those home owners. So my next review will be base on the work that Adi and his crew at GUB will do, but thus far, we have had an amazing experience with Adi and GUB. He really has earned our business. I really think his efforts thus far will be indicative of the finished project. He's worth the call. He'll treat you like family and help you turn your vision into reality. Stay tuned for photos and another review of the finished project! ()()()()()() After Work Completion()()()()()()() I'll let the pictures speak for themselves on how impressed I have been with the results of my back yard. It was a pleasure to work with field manager Adi Aiish, who when we started this project held true to his promise to come back and fix any issues that may come up. I highly recommend GUB for two reasons: 1 All construction projects will encounter some unexpected hurdles and issues. I've learned this through my experience with GUB and also other companies. But what I am most concerned about is the willingness to resolve the issues. Adi promised me that on day 1 and even after 3 months following the completion of the project, they stood to that 100%. Not only did they own up, but they didn't make me jump trough loops and hoops to resolve the issues. 2 Communication with Adi was amazing! If you're like me that you want to stay involved with the project but not want to project manage, then you'll appreciate Adi's ability to keep you up to speed every day. At times I would get heated, but Adi was my Zen master through all this. After all is said and done, and having the experiences with GUB (both good and not so good) I would hire Adi and his crew 100% again. Their representative, Gregg Ledergerber, was the greatest throughout the entire process of installing our solar panels, dealing with the city and So Cal Edison to get everything properly completed. Several teams from Ground Up Builders worked on different stages of the solar panel installation. Each team was knowledgable, professional and courteous. Gregg himself was there for us anytime we had a question. We never hesitated to call Gregg to have something explained or re-explained because we came to know he would be willing and pleasant anytime we called on him. Anna Lefler24 days agoI can’t say enough positive things about working with Ground Up Builders, and my project manager Amir Afuta in particular. From my first introduction to Amir and the company, I was impressed by the level of knowledge, professionalism and genuine warmth he brought to the project. In the early stages, he listened to my hopes and concerns related to my substantial condo remodel, and he worked seamlessly with the designer based on his extensive experience as the design took shape. Then, throughout the demolition and construction process (which included taking the kitchen and large primary bath down to the studs), Amir was consistently on-site to supervise, and he was extremely on top of the details of the project. With all remodels, especially those in older buildings like mine, there are unexpected hiccups and challenges that result from things like geriatric plumbing systems. In these situations, I quickly came to rely on Amir’s calming presence and confident demeanor to relieve my stress about whatever obstacle had arisen. No matter what was going on, he had a plan leading to a solution. And if I had more questions later, I knew he would pick up if I called. My project has been completed for a few months now and I’m thrilled with my new home. All of the work was done beautifully and with great attention to detail. I have to say, the place looks amazing – a result well beyond what I had originally envisioned thanks to our wonderful team. Jennifer A.250 days agoIn 2023, Ground Up Builders finished building an ADU for us as part of a garage conversion. This became a unit for my parents to live with us. Between 2016 and 2020, they also remodeled our kitchen and two bathrooms. Every time we have needed some work done, I call Uzi. Basically, there is no contractor/builder like this--it is now 2026, and I called Uzi today because of a concern about a leak that we discovered with the recent rains. He sent out his team immediately (eg., same day) and they discovered that squirrels had caused some damage. They covered the area to prevent further problems until we can get this fixed. Ground Up Builders is an incredibly responsive and highly professional company that does outstanding work and continues to be conscientious and gracious with any follow up issue. Kristy Kenderes358 days agoGround Up Builders have been amazing to work with!! They are professional, offer great suggestions, and produce sold work. Jacob is amazing!! He truly cares about the work that is put into your home as if it's his own home. He treats you like family. For us, Jacob went above and beyond. We live in El Monte and the city is not easy to work with. They kept giving us problems with permits, etc. Jacob didn’t just email them and wait around. He truly cares about the work that is put into your home as if it's his own home. He treats you like family. For us, Jacob went above and beyond. We live in El Monte and the city is not easy to work with. They kept giving us problems with permits, etc. Jacob didn't just email them and wait around. The finish product looks very professional. Jacob managed the field crew with Ground Up's long-standing pool of workers, including Manny and Cesar. Jacob did not over-promise anything and stayed on schedule. The office team was very helpful as well, including Mary Jane and Tish. I was worried it wouldn't be possible just due to the huge dirt hill we had taking up half of the space. Adi Aiish at Ground Up Builders and Marcos Rojas took on this challenge and let me tell you, they absolutely did not disappoint. They took my plain backyard and turned it into an oasis, equipped with a heater for the pool AND the spa, as well as a built-in, natural-gas grill and countertop and tied it all together with a stunning planter and moody lighting that really brought the set up to life at night. The quote included due diligence information which further put our minds at ease, and we hired Ground Up Builders for a complete kitchen remodel in early 2024. From that experience we hired Ground Up Builders for 6 other projects: new roof plus solar panel installation, complete remodel of guest bathroom, master shower retile and new glass door, replacing rain gutter downspouts and adding gutter guards, refurbishing wooden/glass front door and threshold, and adding a gate and landing to hillside garden from steps on side of house. Sydney Ribot500 days agoThese guys were fantastic. Their bid to rebuild our deck was extremely fair. Adi Aiish, their field manager, was communicative and transparent, and he made our complete rebuild due to faulty construction happen not only on time but ahead of schedule—in spite of the fact that his wife was literally about to go into labor—and his team’s work was flawless. Part of that is because GroundUp Builders employs the same team every time. They do not hire random day laborers to cut costs, but people who have worked together before, and those people have a groove. That was evident in the quality and speed of their work. When there was a small oversight, GroundUp took full responsibility and did not attempt to do the usual runaround contractors do where they posture and pretend that you, the customer, are simply unequipped to assimilate the complexity of a five-layer deck renovation, instead of just saying, “yes, I forgot to ask for the cost of the cricketing for 24 square feet of the space.” Could not be happier with their work and the entire process. John H.712 days agoThis was our first time going through any type of remodel, so we were seeking a contractor and company with a great reputation along with demonstrating patience, competence, and professionalism. My wife found Ground Up Builders on Yelp and we got lucky enough to have Jacob as our Project Manager to come give us a bid and explore ideas. Long story short, Jacob was awesome, and we really felt as if this was his own home and took time and empathy from all angles of the project from concept to completion. We live in West Hollywood, so not an easy city to work with for permits along with an incompetent HOA, which Jacob navigated effectively whereas I feel others would almost give up or deprioritize simply bc of the hurdles in headaches. Not the case with Ground Up... Their overall work and craftsmanship were spot-on across all aspects of the remodel fit our vision and managed to get very close to the estimated time of competition even though the City and HOA were not on our side. Our new Kitchen looks amazing with a spa-like bathroom and impressive new flooring. Excellent work on all fronts. I would recommend Jacob and Ground Up Builders to anyone in the LA area looking for a remodel, large or small. Uzi had been keeping an eye on the meter for me over several years while doing other work at my house. When he suggested it was time I knew I could trust him. His Ground Up crew not only made sure that the newest solar technology replaced my old panels, but installed them in a direction that gave me more coverage on my flat roof. They made sure to check my roof and resurfaced it before the big rains. Despite the big demand they had for customers I never felt that I was not being taken care of and my questions were always answered right away. The project scope included a full kitchen remodel, one full bathroom remodel, as well as new flooring throughout. Jacob was attentive, friendly and most of all genuine. As first time homeowners, having someone we can trust throughout the process was very important. Jacob was very reasonable and always kept our best interest in mind. We felt very grateful to have Jacob not only manage the entire project but provide us guidance throughout the construction. We had always heard wonderful things about Uzi and Ground Up Builders from friends and had worked with the company before - Nathan managed a small job at our old rental, which we were very happy with. Once we met Uzi, we felt very confident about working with his team on our larger project. Ground Up Builders did an amazing job adding a shower and remodeling a bathroom, in addition to putting new flooring in the whole home, interior painting and refinishing and updating lighting and a myriad of other things that needed to get done. Uzi responds to your questions and concerns and had so much patience for me and my many questions. His team is great - Marlon is excellent - as are all of the workers that came to our home. Does not happen enough, that's for sure. From the initial late-night reply & follow-up (to my late-night inquiry) from Eric, to meeting Avi the next day (!) to discuss our budget and options --- GUB immediately stood out as a company that takes their work and their customers seriously. I met with a few others before GUB and was getting a sense that no one was going to care about our little project given that our max was at or below the standard minimum, and that everyone seemed quite busy already. The only other company I could find that even remotely compared to Ground Up in terms of reviews and quality of work, sent what I would call a junior contractor who spent a grand total of about 3 minutes here before saying something like "Not to be mean or anything, but we're kind of a big company..." lol. No thanks to him, I'm guessing. Avi completely shattered my expectations from the get-go. He asked thoughtful questions and gave thoughtful answers with resourceful ideas and creative possibilities to help us track down that illusive buck bang. I could tell immediately that he genuinely cares about the work and the process which, oddly enough, includes the clients too! Hooray for the customer, someone still knows we exist! In the end, Avi remained both the only one willing to hit our number and the only one I actually wanted to work with. The next lowest bid was well over $5k more, by a far less polished contractor, who couldn't even include everything from our list. The difference was so stark, in fact, that some family back east were quite suspicious at first. I could not blame them! It seemed way too easy!! Thankfully, no one remained suspicious for long. Avi was a rock. He got right in here after contracts were signed and during the various delivery delays he remained patient, checking-in, and at-the ready. Also -- always available via text or call as we had various moving parts in terms of shopping for sizes of things, and some custom elements reliant on other things. When we finally won our game of musical vanities that caused weeks of delay... Avi and his team --- who were all very nice and respectful btw --- were right back here in a matter of days. Here's what you want to know: Avi & GUB delivered exactly as promised while practicing straight, honest, good faith, handshake business, with truly competitive pricing. He was always engaged and often times waiting on us (or Home Depot, rather) to continue the work. He showed experience, creativity, resourcefulness, patience, communication, trustworthiness, humility, and integrity -- in addition to just being a super nice guy who really cares about the work. In the end, Avi remained both the only one willing to hit our number and the only one I actually wanted to work with. The next lowest bid was well over $5k more, by a far less polished contractor, who couldn't even include everything from our list. The difference was so stark, in fact, that some family back east were quite suspicious at first. I could not blame them! It seemed way too easy!! Thankfully, no one remained suspicious for long. Avi was a rock. He got right in here after contracts were signed and during the various delivery delays he remained patient, checking-in, and at-the ready. Also -- always available via text or call as we had various moving parts in terms of shopping for sizes of things, and some custom elements reliant on other things. When we finally won our game of musical vanities that caused weeks of delay... Avi and his team --- who were all very nice and respectful btw --- were right back here in a matter of days. Here's what you want to know: Avi & GUB delivered exactly as promised while practicing straight, honest, good faith, handshake business, with truly competitive pricing. He was always engaged and often times waiting on us (or Home Depot, rather) to continue the work. He showed experience, creativity, resourcefulness, patience, communication, trustworthiness, humility, and integrity -- in addition to just being a super nice guy who really cares about the work. Heather J.1052 days agoWe are still in the midst of a massive home remodel, working with Uzi and Nathan at Ground Up Builders. This has been a seamless and very easy experience. We are doing a bedroom + bathroom addition, remodeling an existing bathroom, adding a small addition to an existing bedroom, as well as making a garage transition to an ADU for my mom. We are redoing retaining walls in front and side of our house, redoing floors, new stucco, and new roof. I was terrified to do this project. It began as a kitchen remodel along with tearing down an illegal add-on and has grown! Uzi has done so much for us including taking care of reframing much of our house at his own cost simply because it was discovered while doing the stucco and he wanted the work to be great. Uzi and Nathan are always super kind, very responsive, lovely people. The entire team is so great. Uzi is an HONEST contractor with the biggest heart. He is truly the unicorn of the contractor community. He is on time, on budget, and takes special care of his clients. This company does a picnic for their clients every year that my kids are obsessed with! It's like a small county fair and such a nice time. I can't say enough about this crew. They are just good people and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. In fact, that's how I found Uzi. A met with several companies and Uzi’s estimate was not only competitive on price he gave the most detailed, insightful and fair estimate, including some things he didn’t think we needed to fix! With any big project there are lots of things that come up. Beyond the fair price and great work it was Uzis commitment to making sure everything stayed on track when things for tough - from coordinating with other vendors to coming out to tarp the work in progress when the rains hit mid project. We are so happy with how it came out and Uzi made sure we closed out the job happy. The scope of work included two bathrooms, a wet bar, laundry room, large family room addition inside and out, bedroom, dining room, roof deck and exterior paint job. I really appreciate how he acknowledged my budget and provided solutions to fit what I wanted to achieve. He provided suggestions that I wouldn't have thought of which turned out very well. He is very customer centric and made sure to go out of his way to ensure I was happy through the whole experience. I would be lying if I said there weren't any hiccups/obstacles during the project, but Jacob made sure to hold himself accountable and resolve any issues and make sure I was happy with the results. After interviewing many companies I ended up hiring Ground up which I can say was the best decision I have made. Jacob their project manager is a perfectionist at this craft. He kept me in the loop of everything that was going to happen and always kept in touch, sometimes just to see how my family and I were doing which is great cause during construction you can be really stressed out and hearing from the person handling your project is comforting. I ended up with sewer and plumbing issues once the project started understandable since my house was made back when people were riding horses to get around town. Jacob reassured me Ground Up would do anything possible to help me out which they did. XM H.1260 days agoGround Up Builders really came through with our shower rebuild project. I reached out through Yelp messaging and someone reached out within a day. I communicated with Jacob who was our project manager and he came immediately to give us a quote on our rebuilding shower. I appreciated that he entered my home with a mask on without me asking since I am pregnant. Jacob was very responsive and considerate of our situation. We expressed how we were on a budget and his quote was reasonable. He offered to take the job even though it was too small for most contractors to want to take on. I expressed urgency of a timeline to get the shower done before my baby is due and Jacob made the accommodation for his crew to get started right away. His crew worked quickly and was able to get done in only a few weeks after I had reached out and they did a great job on the shower! I appreciate how super responsive and accommodating they were to my project needs. Now I have a new shower and I can't wait to shower in it! Our house is 100 y/o and we wanted a major renovation to the inside as well as converting an exterior garage to a 1 bedroom rental (ADU). Not only was the crew very good, friendly and capable, but twice during the project we had unexpected emergencies - a blown water heater and a leaky sink drainage pipe - Uzi's guys were right on top of it and we barely noticed the problem getting taken care of. We have recommended GUB to several friends, who have also had nothing but good things to say. I couldn't get a response just calling around for multiple items I needed addressed on my home. Ground up picked up their phone, had a project manager at the house the next day and I had a quote the same day for a new roof and exterior patio doors. Jacob Hirschhorn, Our project manager has been extremely patient Commonwealth is patient commonological, exception is exceptional in his care for our property as well as care for the service setting provides. He has been very responsive to our inquiries questions and concerns. Should you need any kinds of construction services I conservatives I give the highest possible recommendation to is a recommendation to ground up builders in Jacob Hirschhorn. When you consider ground up builders, I would call and ask for Jacob specifically. We did end up having change orders but that's because as you know once you start doing something. That something is now beautiful. The parts around what you've done makes the other older parts of your house look terrible so you have to do those too! Shannon M.1703 days agoFrom the beginning of our roof saga, Amir has been very responsive. We had a storm knock several shingles off our roof and we had Ground Up Builders to do some repairs at first. But after a second storm came through and knocked even MORE shingles off, we called them back to replace the whole roof. When they removed all the shingles, they saw there was no roof deck and little support on the plywood that had been placed beneath the shingles. So Amir talked to us about the situation and ultimately we decided if we are spending money on nice shingles, we should probably put the nice shingles on an actual roof instead of the cardboard house someone before us built. They are currently working in the middle of that project now and the difference in craftsmanship is incredible. Hopefully no more surprises come up, but if they do, we trust Ground Up Builders to help fix it.Posted on Yelp

Very courteous service over the phone, Amir is super professional while still being friendly he came over, explained the process in a few simple steps, quoted us reasonably and made sure to live up to the expectations. He also helped us with the design choices, and actually answered the phone and followed through oh his promises. The crew did an outstanding job and I could not be happier. Great experience overall. I had a puzzle to solve in my home to fit a new larger sized fridge in a kitchen that was built to accommodate a small one. We needed a little bit more room to open the french doors on top. I had an idea to open up the space between 2 studs of a wall beside the fridge. If I were to do it myself it would of taken weeks but he had 2 guys come in and do in in 2 days. The craftsmanship, professionalism and results bring us joy every time we open and close the fridge with ease. Kari R.1947 days agoWithin 24 hours of my original review, Ground Up contacted me. The office manager was apologetic and quick to help rectify the problems I shared. The team led by Adan was thorough and careful. They worked diligently to correct many smaller issues, as well as two larger ones. In the bathroom, they removed all of the tile in the shower and completely replaced it. Our original tile is discontinued but Adan's team was quick to help me find a suitable replacement. Since the accent tile didn't match now, the workers brought many samples to help me select the best match. In the bedroom, they fixed a gouge on the wall and pulled up the flooring to fix the issues with the subflooring. Want to know the best part of this whole repair process? I learned that the contractor (Elio) who completed my initial job does not work for them anymore! I'm hoping that means you will not have the same experience as me. Ground Up showed me that they really care about customer service, so I feel comfortable updated my review to reflect that.Posted on Yelp

I had a few different companies bid on the job, but Tom from Ground Up was the clear winner. He asked all of the right questions and was very professional. When it came time to build, Fransisco was at my place everyday and Tom checked in constantly. As with every project there were a few snafus, but Tom handled everything with grace which I appreciated. Even after the project was finished I noticed an electrical issue. I texted Tom on Friday and he had his electrician there on Monday to fix everything. Uzi is a person that values clear and direct communication and pays attention to detail, two qualities that I appreciate immensely. So far I've hired Uzi and company to do a drainage pipe replacement + instal new pipe liner and was very happy with my decision- the job was completed on budget and quicker than anticipated. In addition, the process of getting the bid, scheduling the work and the follow-up after completion of the work, was seamless. Shopping around reading reviews, I always start with the bad reviews before I read the good ones. Based on all the different reviews we read for all the companies we looked at, Ground up builders felt to us like the right choice. You know, it's that feeling you get at the estimate stage that makes you trust someone without even knowing them... Little did we know that this was the best choice we could have made. Uzi and his team were as professional as one would hope! They are with you all the way until you are completely happy with the result. The communication was a key factor here, since we were helping my mother in law remotely, having someone to talk to about any little issue or any changes that we wanted to do is so important! Uzi was there answering any questions we had and was flexible with the changes she wanted to do, even though some were not in the original plan. I can't thank Uzi and his team enough for making a stressful remodeling project so easy and my mother in law so happy. If you are like me, reading the bad reviews first, I hope you would also read this review, cause after working with them, I cannot imagine how anyone would have a bad experience with them... Jinah K.2214 days agoI can not recommend Uzi Zaray and the crew of Ground Up Builders enough. We hired Ground Up Builders after getting bids from four contractors. We were impressed with how clear his bid was and his enthusiasm for bringing life to a total fixer upper. We made major interior changes, including moving a kitchen, redoing all the windows, adding new floors, adding a new bedroom, adding a master bathroom, installing a new Hvac system, removing all the weird soffits, and demolishing nearly 600 square feet of unpermitted space. Uzi and his crew stayed on budget and despite the fact that four months into constructions COVID created road blocks, we only fell a few weeks behind schedule. He and his crew went above and beyond. He responds quickly and is clear in his communication. His crew was respectful and professional. Any mistakes they made Uzi or his Forman addressed right away. The inspections passed without any problems. He is a genuinely nice person who is highly knowledgeable and takes great pride in doing a good job. Cristina P.2252 days agoMy husband and I have a "money pit" house. We have been doing major renovations for over a year as funds become available. I contacted 4 window installers to give me a quote. All four showed up and promised a quote, but only Peter came through and actually took the project on. We were ghosted by 3 window PROFESSIONALS! It felt like online dating all over again! Ok, our project was a bit more complicated that just simple windows. But he knew he had the team that could deliver. He also was able to work in replacing our HVAC unit too! Then the pandemic hit and our funds dried up. Peter was very patient. He would check in on me and didn't judge us or give off the air of irritation that we were not able to pull the funds together for the agreed upon estimate. Finally our home loan cleared and when I called him he went right to action. He had Julio and his window guys here in a giffy. He had Shlomi and his air conditioning/heating crew here quickly. Everything was done within days! It went so smooth! The crew wore masks, kept their distance, brought their own handsoap and were so polite! I have used Ground Up Builders and specifically Arnon multiple times to inspect a roof whether it is in Altadena or in the the city of Los Angeles, he makes the effort to meet me there! The physical inspection period during an escrow can happen quickly and there are many moving parts when it comes to coordinating respective inspectors to meet the availability of the client and it really helps when an inspector like Arnon goes out of his way to figure out how we can make an appointment happen! My clients have always appreciated his honest opinion and friendly customer service. It was near 90 degrees during our recent inspection and he made no complaints getting up on the roof to inspect due to a short physical contingency period we had. I had the outmost pleasure to find such a dedicated, outstanding full of heart company. It’s not a secret that when you start remodeling you never really know how it will come . The house is a bit aged and needed a new HVAC system, new roof, new paint job in & outside of the home. In my search for a contractor, I spoke with several (maybe five) all of which seemed to be competent. But competent was not enough in my case. I live in Atlanta Georgia, a long way away from my mom's home in the San Fernando Valley area. I needed a contractor that was not only competent but also fair in price and patient and kind when dealing with my mother. Kindness is not an attribute one tends to look for when looking for a contractor but because of the distance, it was important to me. After my initial conversation with Uzi, I went with my gut feeling and hired him for the job. Needless to say, Uzi and his team did an outstanding job and in a timely fashion. Uzi took the time to explain all the steps of the job to my mom so there would be no surprises. Neat, Clean, Fast, Fair and patient. What more could you ask? Well, Because they did such a good job with that project, eight months later I hired Uzi and his team to remodel one of the bathrooms in my mom's house. This time my mom wouldn't even let me shop around for other contractors. She only wanted Ground Up to do the work. Just an FYI for everyone, my mom is the sweetest lady you ever want to be around but she's not always the easiest person to please when she's paying someone to do work for her. Tal came in and saved the day after a terrible experience with another contractor who couldn't pass inspections and then abandoned the project. Tal was clear, concise and an excellent problem solver. Their crews were polite and did great work. If there was ever anything we didn't feel was done up to a high standard, Tal and Uzi stood by the reputation of their company and always made everything right. Also, big shout out to Irene in the office who is an excellent communicator and has gone above and beyond to make sure we were always taken care of. We would absolutely use Ground Up again. And we will, thinking about a bedroom addition for next year! The representative that I had interviewed for the job was very customer service oriented, and I felt after two other interviews, that this was the company I would hire since I felt comfortable with the product, and the approach was one of caring about the job, whereas, the others were also, but, the contractor, Peter Simons, was exceptional. The crew did an excellent job of installing the windows and I'm very glad to have made the decision to go with this company. Should I choose to replace other windows, I would hire this company again. Ground Up seemed to be the highest rated company amongst the companies I looked up although not the cheapest but they were willing to work with me regarding the project cost. Out of the companies that I requested a quote, Ground Up was one of the only ones that sent someone to do an on site inspection and then put together a quote on the spot. The communication with Adi, the Project Manager was excellent. Always followed up the day of the installation and afterwards. Any issues that came up, he was able to resolve right away. The workers that did the actual window installation were pretty efficient and fast, they clearly knew what they were doing. I appreciate the insight Adi offered to ensure the product that was chosen was the right fit and not something that you later regret. Laura K.2653 days agoI just had a team from Ground Up Builders redo the waterproofing in a shower, and working with them was a totally seamless experience. Uzi is professional, responsive and just a really nice guy to deal with. I contacted him a few weeks before the job was to start, and Uzi came out twice to check out the shower situation, and he reserved the start date for me. The job started on time, and his team was also incredibly professional. And their handiwork is VERY good. Uzi and his team were able to accommodate my tenants' particular quirks, like starting work at the later time of 9:00 am. Uzi's assistant Mary was also so professional and nice to deal with. Based on the many positive reviews I read on Yelp, I contacted Ground Up Builders. Guy, the company representative, showed up on the day and time promised. After doing an inspection of the damaged section of the floor he gave me an initial estimate that I thought was very reasonable. Our contract called for an L.A. City inspector to come out for a pre inspection of the damaged floor joist and recommend repairs needed to be compliant with current building and safety codes. The inspector determined that a structural engineering plan needed to be done and approved by the city. Naturally, this requirement changed the scope of the project and resulted in additional costs. Guy, who was very knowledgeable and professional, explained the additional work that was required and gave me a revised estimate that was reasonable and fair. The additional plans and repairs required caused some delays in starting the work. Once the work project received the green light, the work started on the day scheduled and was finished on the date promised. Guy and his coworker Adi diligently supervised the work, were in constant contact and readily available to answer all questions for the duration of the project. The workers were very professional and responsible and did an excellent job. I was very pleased with the work done, and the friendly, knowledgeable and professional service received from Guy and Adi. Great quality system. PG&E pays me back almost every month. My cost break- even point supposedly in 8 years, with PG&E's negative dollar bills, the break-even could be in 7 years!!! Then all free electricity plus making money by selling electric to PG&E there-ever-after!!! The installation crew has done a professional job; they even went to a local paint shop brought two cans of paint and painted electrical conduits to match my wall and the roof. Greg is super, and very responsive. He sold me the system and informed me that because my particular roof titles, some tiles may get damaged during the installation, but they will replace them. For sure, after the installation, Greg drove all the way from LA to San Luis Obispo (200+ miles) to deliver the replacement tiles (with some extra too).Posted on Google
Leah M2743 days agoSo far, so good! The team from Ground Up that is re-wiring our house are like magicians. Our house was built in 1921, so we have plaster and lath walls. Most other contractors would have torn up the walls to re-wire the house but Ground Up hasn't opened a single wall. Our addition was done in 2001, long before we bought the house, and there was very little crawl space in the "flat roof" of the addition and yet they were able to install recessed lighting without a problem. Tal has been great, ensuring that all of our concerns and little worries are being addressed. Now if only the weather would cooperate so we can finally get our new roof! Leah M.2744 days agoSo far, so good! The team from Ground Up that is re-wiring our house are like magicians. Our house was built in 1921, so we have plaster and lath walls. Most other contractors would have torn up the walls to re-wire the house but Ground Up hasn't opened a single wall. Our addition was done in 2001, long before we bought the house, and there was very little crawl space in the "flat roof" of the addition and yet they were able to install recessed lighting without a problem. Tal has been great, ensuring that all of our concerns and little worries are being addressed. Now if only the weather would cooperate so we can finally get our new roof! Dana L.2748 days agoI had my roof replaced with GUB and subsequent damage in a room that was affected by a leak during the first big rainstorm in Jan. Adi was my project manager--he came to assess the problem and then got back to me the next day with a plan of attack and quote. He guaranteed me that he was going to be there every step of the way to supervise the job and be available at anytime to answer questions and to keep me updated on progress. Adi made good on that promise. If you've ever experienced a construction job where the company virtually disappears and you can't get a hold of anyone or any answers, GUB is not that company. Adi made himself available for any questions or concerns I had through the duration of the project. As for the quality of the work, they did a thorough job using quality products that are guaranteed--something that I didn't get with my last roof! The job ran on schedule despite several rain interuptions. I recommend GUB for any construction job. The attentiveness and assurance they offered was helpful and appreciated. I've been researching prices for months and his was thus far the best and I don't mean the least I mean best over all . It was a great experience but we are still deciding and going over details with our home owners association as we live in a condo downtown LB . So, it was a breath of fresh air when Jeremy, the Project Manager from Ground Up Builders showed up. He was professional, but had a sense of humor, and knowledgeable. He actually took the time to learn about me and what look I wanted. He even offered some options I never even considered, but loved. So far, so good. Meredith Zohar2750 days agoWe settled on Ground Up Builders to remove two kitchen walls after quite a bit of research and many estimates. The quote was competitive and only increased a very reasonable amount when the scope of work did, Adi (our main contact) was friendly and professional, and GUB was willing to work with my Husband and I doing some of the work ourselves to keep costs down. Throughout the job the work was done very well, the team was responsive to any questions or concerns we had, and they took care with our home. We didn't have any of the issues that are unfortunately common with construction - the price didn't inflate, they stayed on schedule, cleaned up everything as they went, and never acted as though something wasn't their problem. Angel B.2765 days agoWhile sifting through yelp looking for someone who can replace only 4 bedroom windows and possibly an external door, I found myself nervous and stressed, receiving calls and messages after requesting a quote....which I had no idea was going to happen so quickly. I was met with less than desirable candidates that did not seem interested in such a small task, made me take measurements and estimated over the phone instead of allowing me to meet them in person, trying to force a certain style of window on me, or stating that I would have to order windows from them before they even greeted me. As my emotions are taking over and my anxiety rising, I receive a call from Eric and he was so calm and welcoming, I felt instantly better. We talked a little and I set up a time for a contractor to come out and take measurements and I was a little skeptical it was going to turn out well after the experiences I had. When Jeremy showed up he was very professional, prepared, and had a warmth about him that was very inviting. He thoroughly discussed things with me involving how to choose the right contractor and check licenses to ensure they have had their license as long as they claim. He then walked through the house with me and took measurements addressing all my concerns and building a relationship of trust. The quote he gave was very reasonable and he added in the door as well as a possibility and then checked the attic before he left and offered an additional solution to keeping the climate inside our old house regulated better. He gave me a list of options to choose from digitally so I could select different options after I discussed them with my grandmother who owns the house. We were able to choose what we could handle doing at the moment without feeling guilt for not being able to do everything on the list and hit the button to accept the quote. I received a response almost immediately and Jeremy has walked us through every step of this process so far and he treats us as if we have a large project which feels good. We don't feel less important because the job is a smaller one. We look forward to working with Jeremy in the coming weeks and if the windows are installed beautifully and we are as satisfied with the work as we are with the demeanor of the company, then we will surely have a contractor and company we will be using again in the future. Karen S.2814 days agoI had a plumber out to my house, who told me I had a leak under my tub and termites. (And showed me pictures...) He referred me to a friend who he assured me would be able to take care of the issues. I felt a bit uneasy and instead I called Ground Up Builders for an estimate to do the work. Aaron came up, crawled under my house on such a hot day, and came out with the assurance, that there were NO termites, and NO leak! I am so grateful for Aaron's honesty, and having my back! They did an energy upgrade of my 93 y.o. duplex. New roof, insulation, stucco/paint and new windows. My project manager, Tal Zion, was wonderful, as is the entire staff. The crews for each part of the job were quite skillful, efficient and maintained a clean job site. My property is in an HPOZ which means dealing with additional requirements from the City of L.A. besides the usual Permits. The office maintained great communication with the HPOZ staff and we got it approved ahead of schedule. At the end of the job Tal made sure the smallest details were taken of. I had a wonderful experience with Groundup Builders. I am extremely happy with the outcome. It looks great and we can feel the difference in this hot weather. Ashkan M.2949 days agoIt is strange that people leave 1 star reviews for a FREE ESTIMATE that didn't go to their liking. Come on people. You can't ruin someones reputation because your free estimate didn't work out too well. After getting a free estimate for remodeling an apartment that is a part of a duplex, Ground Up Builders sent a representative, Adi, who gave me a very reasonable estimate for redoing the whole apartment. The previous tenant was evicted and as you can image they left a huge mess in the apartment. Adi was very professional and not pushy at all. We even got estimates from other companies too but non of them were as professional and open about their estimate and breakdown of cost. We ended up going with them and they did an AMAZING job! Can't really ask for more. They finished the job in 6 weeks as promised (actually five and a half weeks to be exact). I'm very happy with their service and will absolutely work with them in the future for other projects. Pros: Professional staff Accurate estimate Finished the job quickly and efficiently Clearly went over options with me and helped me pick the best material and work for my budget Cons: Non that I can think of! They took a video and photographs to better examine the roof. A few days later Uzi emailed me a report and photographs of which we used to have our contractor return to fix the problems Uzi's company found. I wish I would have hired Uzi's company to do our roof. He would have done a better job, at a fairer price. It was a pleasure to work with field manager Adi Aiish, who when we started this project held true to his promise to come back and fix any issues that may come up. I highly recommend GUB for two reasons: 1 All construction projects will encounter some unexpected hurdles and issues. I’ve learned this through my experience with GUB and also other companies. But what I am most concerned about is the willingness to resolve the issues. Adi promised me that on day 1 and even after 3 months following the completion of the project, they stood to that 100%. Not only did they own up, but they didn’t make me jump trough loops and hoops to resolve the issues. 2 Communication with Adi was amazing! If you’re like me that you want to stay involved with the project but not want to project manage, then you’ll appreciate Adi’s ability to keep you up to speed every day. At times I would get heated, but Adi was my Zen master through all this. After all is said and done, and having the experiences with GUB (both good and not so good) I would hire Adi and his crew 100% again. Adi Aiish, the field manager, is a hard worker, and i admire he's industriousness!!! he always communicated and kept me updated with every step of the project and made it a really smooth experience. The crew were always on time, and were of a very high quality, and very responsive. Adi makes a big difference in this industry as far as customer service that is out there based on past experiance with contractors. I hired this company for a driveway project, which ended being a turf stone and gravel design that made my driveway much better than just concrete. i love it! Their team, especially Irene and Rudy, were able to answer all questions and concerns, and never took more than a day to respond. Jordan F.3283 days agoI had a new roof put on recently and it started leaking brown liquid. The roofer who did the job (a different company that shall remain nameless) essentially told me to pound sand and there was nothing he could do about it. I put out a request for a second opinion on Yelp to Ground Up Builders and several other contractors. Uzi replied right away, asked questions, and even called the manufacturer of my new roof to verify his suspicion that it was "tobacco-juicing", which is a common side effect of roofs that have sustained high heat and humidity and very little/no rain (as is common in LA). I wish I had hired Uzi to do my roof given the level of customer service I received from him.Posted on Yelp

We added insulation to the attic, Milgard Windows and French Doors, plus a whole new HVAC system. After all the upgrades I save big on my SCE bill and I have a much more comfortable upgraded home. Gregg Ledergerber, the sales rep., was easy to work with, explained the advantages and disadvantages of the different solar panel systems several times to me with very little sales pressure. He was there for the entire process, and he continues to stay in contact with us to make sure all is working properly. Additionally his work crew were prompt and very helpful. Completed the job in a few days. They installed on the metal roof of my workshop building which other companies stated that it could not be done. My bill went from an average of $400 to $22 a month which is the meter fee from PG&E. I have had absolutely no electric usage charge. I would recommend this company for all your solar needs. We managed to book the job during what we thought would be dry and sunny patch during the February rain onslaught and luck being what it was the forecast changed to rain. The Ground Up Builders team came in and worked long days, hours and weekends to ensure that the roof was covered and in an acceptable condition for when the rain did inevitably come. After meeting various companies on which I couldn't decide, when I met Tal Winograd from Groundup builders I felt much more conformable moving forward and letting them do the job. Tal took me personally to see some projects that were being build and some others that were finished. That totally sealed the deal. Tal was very knowledgable, had great ideas and suggestions that other companies had previously missed. The price was very fair for the amount of work needed. We remodeled the kitchen and bathrooms to a modern clean style exactly the way I had wanted. There was great communication with the team that executed the job. Their office was available and on call 24/7 if I had any questions. Tal supervised the job himself. Great professionalism, on time, with uniforms, every day after the work was done the team cleaned my house. They came up with the most complete estimate The best reviews and referrals in my neighborhood. We did have some difficulty since my mom's age to get the funds to do the job and the team took care of us and provided all the necessary plans to go forward with this project. This project ended up to be roofing re-wiring for the whole house with the new upgraded electrical panel we did go through with remodeling the whole house brand-new kitchen that we love to use when the whole family get together for holidays. And the new bathroom to accommodate my mom's age that we really appreciate having! The house is much safer right now. And the job was done beautifully. They just finished installing the new windows and love them! My next project would be to do the landscaping I saw already few of their jobs and this is what we would love to get for mom! And we do love the fact that everything be done is energy efficient and would save us a lot of money in the future with cooling and heating the place. We haven't started the project yet, but this is our experience with the vetting process and why we chose Adi and GUB. They are helping us with our back yard hardscape and landscape project. Pavers, artificial turf and DG. Like most of you looking for help with a project like this, you're gonna do your homework and really learn what you're getting yourself into. We met Adi with GUB after meeting three other providers and still met with three more following his initial visit. Adi has really taken great care of us so far. That initial appointment was supposed to be 2 hours, but because of our questions and his insights , we spend the day making the vision we wanted. Mind you, we didn't sign with him that day. We still wanted to feel the market and get more quotes. And Adi and GUB were not the cheapest. We still spent about $5k more than the next group, but we really see the value in going with them. I visited a job site that Adi had managed and saw great work and great experiences from those home owners. So my next review will be base on the work that Adi and his crew at GUB will do, but thus far, we have had an amazing experience with Adi and GUB. He really has earned our business. I really think his efforts thus far will be indicative of the finished project. He's worth the call. He'll treat you like family and help you turn your vision into reality. We bought a house as-is via a probate sale and have had various issues that needed immediate resolution. Uzi and Ground Up were always there for us, solving our problems promptly and efficiently. They are honest, stand by their work, and have been a life-saver. After moving in, we got a notice from the city that there were pending permits on the house that had expired. Uzi and his team dealt with the city on our behalf, scheduling the inspections and performing the work to get the city to finalize the permits Then we had our HVAC go out on a hot weekend. Uzi answered my texts on a weekend and scheduled a technician to come out on Monday. The technician fixed the problem so that we were able to use the air again the same day. They are too big, too expensive, not concerned with individual clients' welfare so much as getting them done with -- you know the routine. Not so GroundUp. After a great deal of research, I took a flyer on their owner, Uzi, and his well-intended and comported staff. We installed a full solar array -- no mean feat. They finished the work in a bit over a day. The result wasn't just efficient -- it was art, especially when they found themselves having to redo a crumbling roof in the process. Their work was impeccable, reasonably priced, and together, we put the boot to the power company, which just goes on its merry way upping rates at 5 percent a year. Wish I could do that well at a Savings & Loan. It's been three months and I owe the power company squat. If you have any doubts, ask Uzi for my number -- I am happy to give personal tours. That is, if you can manage to see anything -- the 20 or so panels I bought are so expertly tucked away you need a ladder or drone to see them.Posted on Yelp

Installation was done on the solar panels in only a couple of days and the workers worked hard to conform to our wishes for appearance. Gregg Ledergerber was both our salesman and primary contact person when we had questions. He was always friendly & forthcoming with us. Due to Gregg, we became aware of the HERO program, which was an assist in financing. If this wasn't our "forever house", I would have no hesitation in using this company in the future. For what it is worth, even the County Building Inspector (who said he had been seeing a lot of solar installations recently) seemed impressed with the workmanship of the installation.Posted on Google

Steven F.3848 days agoGround Up Builders promised to submit the necessary paperwork to LADWP for my Solar Rebate and said that it could take up to a year for LADWP to actually made good on the rebate promise. Ground Up must have bugged the heck out of LADWP on my behalf because I got my rebate check yesterday - and it only took two months! Considering my personal experiences with LADWP in the past, I have to give credit to Ground Up Builders for making this happen because I expected getting money out of LADWP to require about as much pressure as making a diamond out of a lump of coal! The Guy 0074020 days agoI have to say that I was looking for a good certified insulation company that not just blow in insulation without the proper air seal around the attic space. I'm very happy with ground up experience and a very professional presentation that explains the logic sense of savings in this little project that means a lot!!! Adi, the field supervisor of ground up builders helped me a lot with the knowledge of having the insulation prior to any other energy efficient project. They explained that before solar/with solar energy investment, you will have to improve the house enveloping before in a certified and professional way that will reduce the energy saving as much as possible. They provide the whole package with air seal around the attic and duct seal that prevent waisted consumption of the meter, prior the insulation they make sure there is no air leaks goes from the attic thru the house. They also provide and install a can lights covers that prevent air leak and fire hazards from the light bulbs. And just after everything is inspected they blow in the insulation with a good R value that's approve by the hero program. There is no doubt I would highly recommend to work with ground up builders on your next project to improve your energy efficiency the right way. Especially thanks a lot for Adi's customer service and acknowledge about the product. Attach some pictures of before and after for your interest. Thanks. FIY: there is also a rebate program that they work with thru energy upgrades of California. We did not know the extent till a serious rain storm hit. Prior to the rain, we did our best to repair, re-paint, and even had the ceiling re-textured getting it ready for our business move. Everything looked great until that rain. The evidence of the roof's poor condition was all around the house. Large water stains throughout indicated we had a problem. I contacted various businesses requesting an evaluation and estimate. Uzi was the only contractor that demonstrated a thorough understanding of what needed to be done. He was the only contractor that actually looked in the attic (one company based their estimate on looking at my property through Google Earth!) We had Ground Up Builders replace our roof, re-insulate the attic, and remove a section of a poorly constructed patio. I am very satisfied with the quality and cost of the repair. I've worked in the real estate/building industry for over 12 years and definitely recommend Ground Up; these are the guys you want to use. Here's more detail on my experience: A portion of my house needed insulation blown in because it was drafty and cold and we were spending $500/mo on heating. I called out a couple contractors to take a look and bid the job. I found that Uzi and his team were highly knowledgeable about building envelopes, energy efficiency, insulation, and building in general; he holds several building professional accreditations. Additionally, his bid was very competitive and he offered the simplest solution with the least disruption to my family and my house. During the course of the work I asked Uzi to insulate an unusual wall cavity which was covered in plaster and presented a difficult condition to deal with. Uzi had originally stayed away from that section because he was concerned an expanding foam insulation for this particular condition could crack the wall. I told him to go ahead and just do the work. Uzi was right, and the wall cracked when the foam expanded. I called him, acknowledged that he was right, and asked if his crew could fix it - I would pay for it since it was my mistake. Uzi sent a guy out the next day who cut out a wall section to shave back the insulation, re-patched the wall, sanded it and painted it. Looks good as new. And there was no additional charge. Unbelievable. He arrived to our house on time and was incredibly professional. Provided a quote on the spot and let me say that his price was very reasonable. I was more than happy with the renovation. His crew was on time and extremely professional. The work was completed even before the projected time frame which is a rarity in the industry! We have used him for several of our renovation projects since then. He's also a very honest and nice guy! The initial presentation blew the rest out of the water. Uzi actually climbed up to the attic and took pictures that explained the airflow issues we were having in our home. He then showed us videos that helped us really comprehend things we never even thought about. We decided to go ahead with windows replacement and attic insulation. The crew was extremely professional and clean. Job completed on time(!) and with no surprises(!). This is the place to mention that Ground Up Builders was the first company that didn't push us straight towards solar panels but asked us to first correct existing issues and only after we'll get the next electric bill decide if we even have a need for solar panels. I had done attempted a two bathroom remodel and several improvements all around the entire house and my nightmare of a "handyman" had left me with my house in pieces and almost not liveable. Easy to negotiate with and well organized.Posted on YelpT N.5875 days agoI just wrapped up a 3 month home addition project with Uzi from Ground Up builders. The 230sqft addition (Master bedroom and Master bath) came out beautifully. My house was built in 1936, on an elevated subfloor, so a seamless transition was very important to me. They did a great job aligning the floors up, as well as creating a seamless line between the new drywall and old lathe and plaster walls. I chose Ground Up from several contractors because I appreciated the manner in which Uzi very promptly responded to my inquiries -- both by phone and email. It's difficult at the early stages to pick a contractor because everyone claims 'great work" etc., but the communication factor to me was very important. The fact that the work was stellar was an added plus to the communication. Like any construction project, you need to expect problems. We had an old home, so when they tore open the walls, our heart sunk as we discovered a bit of termite damage and some problems with the plan. Despite what would be two major setbacks, Uzi expeditiously and professionally handled the two obstacles by providing recommedations and solutions in dealing with the city. Additionally, it would be unreasonable to expect anyone to read my mind when the final aesthetic touches had to be installed. There were some minor miscommunications which were quite reasonable and to be expected. What I want to point out here is that despite the occasional miscommunication, Uzi always did a great job clearing matters up and correcting the situation in a matter that left everyone happy. During construction, I had a chatty older neighbor come over every day to watch the progress and he was continually amazed at how fast, efficient and clean the crew was. And the fact that they were there and committed to the project every day was impressive. After my construction was done, my neighbor hired Ground Up Builders (which earned me a little bit of cash as a referral bonus), which is a nice way for the company to share a little bit with client on referral. Overall, I'm very pleased with the work. Construction is stressful, no matter how smoothly everything goes -- and things never go smoothly.
