This house in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles 90041, had been split into a duplex. The job was to put it back together as a single family home, with a floorplan that made sense for one family again.
From Duplex Back to One Home
Converting a duplex back to a single family residence sounds like a simplification. In permitting terms it is the opposite. This one was genuinely difficult to get through the City of LA, and that approval was the longest part of the project.
A New Floorplan, Not Just New Finishes
With the two units combined, the floorplan was reconfigured rather than patched. The house got a new kitchen and new bathrooms, and the layout was reworked around how the space would actually be used as one home.
The Exterior
Outside, the house got Santa Barbara stucco and new Milgard Trinsic windows, which pulled the two former units into one elevation instead of a house that still read as split.
See the ADU on the Same Lot
The garage on this property was separately converted into an ADU. That is covered on its own page, and it is worth seeing the two together to understand what the whole lot became. More on our home remodeling, kitchen remodeling and bathroom remodeling work, or our projects in Eagle Rock.
